# First comments, threads and polls

> Keep links out of captions with firstComment, publish X/Threads/Bluesky threads, and create X or LinkedIn polls in Botdoor.

## First comment

`firstComment` is a reply from the same account, sent about 10 seconds after the post is live. Use it for links, so the main post isn't penalised.

- Supported on X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, YouTube and TikTok. Others: `400 first_comment_unsupported`.
- Length limits (checked when you create the post): X 280, TikTok 150, Threads 500, LinkedIn 1250, Instagram 2200, Facebook 8000, YouTube 10000 characters.
- `GET /posts/{id}` reports `firstComment.status`: `pending`, `posted`, `failed` or `skipped` (the post failed, so the comment wasn't sent).
- If it fails after retries, the post stays published. Retry with `POST /posts/{id}/first-comment/retry` (MCP `retry_first_comment`). A comment is never posted twice.

## Thread

`thread` is an array of follow-up posts published with the main post (X, Threads and Bluesky only). `thread[0]` is the first reply after `content`. `firstReply` is an alias for a one-item thread; don't send both. You can combine `thread` and `firstComment`.

```json
{ "content": "We're hiring a weekend baker. 3 things to know:", "thread": ["1. Early starts.", "2. We train you.", "3. Apply in store."], "accountIds": ["…"] }
```

## Poll

`poll` works on X and LinkedIn, without media: `{"question"?, "options": [...], "durationMinutes"}`. `question` is LinkedIn only. Other networks: `400 poll_unsupported`.

## Common questions

### Why use a first comment for links?

Networks often show less reach for posts with links. A first comment keeps the link one tap away.

### Is the first comment posted if the main post fails?

No. It is marked skipped.

### Can I add a thread on Instagram?

No. Threads are only X, Threads and Bluesky (thread_unsupported elsewhere).

### Does Botdoor wait for the first comment in my request?

No. It is sent in the background; poll GET /posts/{id} to see it.
